Sand pack standards

Two sand packs are available to users. The first is composed of quartz sands and the second of dolomitic sands. The water contained in these sands is chlorine-free and in chemical equilibrium with the mineral constituents.

The two sand pack standards are 1.5m thick and 2 m in diameter. They are located on top of a 2m radiation protected rat hole. The thin (2.4mm) epoxy/fiber glass liner that isolates the loose sands from the central borehole means that different fluids can be pumped into the central hole. This helps evaluate the influence that the different quantities of drilling fluids have on the measurements.
