ALUMINUM & COMPOSITE STANDARDS

Aluminum and composite standards are used to assess the environmental corrections related to the hole diameter, the density of the fluid present in the borehole, and the thickness and nature of the "mud cakes".

A combination of different block densities, diameters and fluids are used to determine the environmental corrections. The use of artificial mud cakes is also possible.

ALUMINUM & COMPOSITE STANDARDS - NATURE & LOCATION

The standards are located in the basement close to the fluid storage tanks.

The aluminum & composite standards are made of aluminum alloy (AS7G03) and aluminum composite. Their densities are 2.67 g/l and 1.68 g/l and their chemical/mineralogical composition is shown in the table below.

ALUMINUM & COMPOSITE - RAT HOLES AND FLUIDS

The blocks are housed in a welded steel structure, supporting the two metal standards. Each block is drilled with six different hole diameters. To simulate different drilling fluids, a piping and pumps system is used to change the fluids in the drilled blocks and rat holes.

ALUMINUM & COMPOSITE STANDARDS GEOMETRY

The geometry of the blocks was validated by MCNP nuclear models. Each standard will be drilled with six holes from 104 to 393 mm in diameter. Six different 2.5-m rat holes are located below each standard.
